Got stress in your life? Of course you do! The question is “what kind of stress?”
Stress as a factor affecting society is talked about, written about, thought about more than almost any other topic except sex and the weather – and always in a negative context. ‘People’ are affected by ‘too much stress’. There are boundless links between stress and physical, mental, emotional and spirtitual ailments. Every talk show host has taken at least one kick at how to deal with stress.
Well, I suggest we dial it back a bit and gain some perspective.
It’s not stress that is the issue – it’s the wrong kind of stress. In clinical terms, it’s referred to as ‘dis’ stress.
There is, in fact, good stress. And, you want lots of it! Canadian endocrinologist Hans Selye coined the phrase ‘eustress’ to define the kind of stress the is healthy, gives one a feeling of fulfillment or other positive feelings. It represents a process of exploring positive gains.
Eustress is a real thing and is good for you. More than that, you can manage the amount of eustress in your life.
